Can I import a used car into Chile?
Generally no. Article 21 of Law 18.483 prohibits the import of used vehicles, with limited exceptions, and Chilean Customs has confirmed the ban remains in force (Aduanas de Chile). Chilean buyers should therefore order new CX-5 units only.
How are new cars homologated in Chile?
Each vehicle model is approved by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications through its vehicle certification centre (3CV), and the importer then issues an individual homologation certificate (CHI) for each new vehicle (ChileAtiende). Since 30 September 2022, new light-vehicle homologations require Euro 6b or equivalent emissions performance (ANAC). The China-market CX-5 is certified to China 6; your homologation partner should confirm how it is assessed.
Which port should I use?
San Antonio is the main vehicle gateway; its operator DP World says the terminal handles more than 95% of Chile's vehicle imports (El Dínamo). We quote CIF San Antonio by Ro-Ro or container.
